Lawrence welcomes a dozen Eutin students

Twelve students and a teacher, Falk Freidel, arrived in Lawrence from Eutin, Germany, on Tuesday, 9/20, for a three-week visit to complete a 2022 sister-city exchange. The pandemic caused exchanges to be canceled in ’20 and ’21. Five Lawrence students visited these students and attended Eutin schools in June, accompanied by Avery Miller.

Friends-of-Eutin and Sister Cities Lawrence plan a welcome reception at Watkins Museum next Monday evening, 9/26, for the hosting families and invited guests. In keeping with tradition, the Eutiners will be introduced to the Mayor and Lawrence City Commissioners at their meeting on October 4 at City Hall.

The twelve Eutin students are divided among families at Free State High, Lawrence High, and Bishop Seabury Academy. In addition to attending classes, students will sample various local cultural events such as LHS Homecoming, KU football, Haskell University Pow-Wow, St. John’s Oktoberfest, and Art in the Park , and make visits to regional places of interest. It will be a busy three weeks!

Eutin and Lawrence have been sister cities for 33 years. Our two additional sister cities are Hiratsuka, Japan and Iniades, Greece. For more information about these partnerships,, visit www.sistercitieslawrence.org.
