SCL Governing Board’s Covid Policy

Given what is understood about Covid-19 at this time, the Sister Cities Lawrence Governing Board has adopted the policy to suspend travel of students from Lawrence to any sister city until the population of Kansas can return to “normal” as defined by the CDC. At the time of the December 10, 2020 board meeting, the CDC position was that normal activities could be resumed when herd immunity is achieved. Since the specific vaccination percentage required to achieve herd immunity is not yet clear, the policy adopted by the board is to take guidance from the CDC on when it has been achieved and normal activities can resume.

Additionally, the policy adopted by the board includes pausing detailed planning efforts for any exchange of students to all of our sister cities until a minimum of 25% of Kansans are immunized and further vaccination efforts are progressing successfully. Once those planning efforts resume, additional details will be defined, including aligning specific requirements with the appropriate entities in each sister city and clarifying the protocols and vaccination requirements for all participants in exchanges, specifically students, chaperones and host families.
