 Our Purpose

To encourage people in Lawrence, Kansas, and each sister city to understand each other as individuals, as members of their community, as citizens of their country and as part of the family of nations.

Sister Cities Lawrence is a non-profit organization fostering relationships between residents of Lawrence, Kansas, USA and each of its three sister cities: Eutin, Germany (1989); Hiratsuka, Japan (1990); Iniades, Greece (2009); and Tocopilla, Chile (2024). This is accomplished through cultural and educational exchanges, thereby making life-long friends.

Our Sister Cities

Eutin

(“Oy-TĒEN”)

Our German sister city, Eutin is located in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein, not far from the Baltic Sea and 30 miles north of Lübeck.

Hiratsuka 平塚市

(“Hē-rah-tskah”)

The scenic seaside city of Hiratsuka boasts a 2.5 mile coastline on the Sagami Bay of the Pacific Ocean, and is approximately one hour from Tokyo.

Iniades Οινιάδες

(“Ē-nē-AH-thes”)

Our Greek Sister City of Iniades is one of several small towns within the municipality of Messolonghi, the prefecture capital with approximately 13,000 inhabitants.

 Tocopilla, Chile

(“To-co-PEE-yah”)

Our newest sister city agreement with Tocopilla, Chile comes as a result of the Net Zero World Initiative which fosters innovative approaches to sustainability, equity, and economic development. Tocopilla is a mining town perched on Chile’s Pacific Coast in the Antifagasto Region, about 950 miles north of Santiago.
